Microdermabrasion

Age, acne, the sun…all can leave their traces behind on your face. But you can reduce or even erase your facial imperfections—with almost no discomfort or downtime.

microdermabrasion-1

Microdermabrasion can refresh the skin on your face and remove these imperfections almost painlessly. In this treatment, fine particles remove the top layer of skin where most of this damage is contained, revealing a fresh new layer below. Microdermabrasion can eliminate or reduce the appearance of:

  • fine lines and wrinkles
  • crow’s feet
  • acne scars
  • enlarged pores
  • blackheads
  • age spots
  • uneven pigmentation

This non-surgical process stimulates the production of collagen, the protein that makes up the connective tissue in your skin. Microdermabrasion is a popular way to achieve a younger, brighter and more even complexion.

It Begins with a Consultation

If you’re considering microdermabrasion, you’ll first meet with Dr. Lee. He will examine the area to be treated and talk about your goals for the procedure, as well as lay out a treatment plan.

Be prepared to share your medical history, including previous surgeries, medical conditions, drug allergies and current medications.

Your Microdermabrasion Procedure

Microdermabrasion uses a small, handheld device that sprays tiny crystals over your skin. The crystals and the dead skin are immediately sucked back into the device. The process takes approximately a half-hour, which is why this is often referred to as a lunchtime procedure.

You’ll feel a slight scratching and vibrating on your skin as the cells are lifted and then suctioned away, but because microdermabrasion is relatively painless, no anesthesia is needed. Dr. Lee will recommend a special moisturizer to protect and help renew your fresh new skin after the procedure, but you will require no downtime.

Microdermabrasion requires five to 12 visits spaced two to three weeks apart to achieve the best results. Most undergo maintenance visits after the initial microdermabrasion series to maintain the results.

While complications are rare, you may experience some redness and swelling. Your skin may be dry and flaky for a few days after the microdermabrasion. Some patients experience bruising from the suction. And all patients will be more sensitive to the sun as their skin generates a fresh new layer. Regular use of sunscreen is highly recommended.

Many spas and other facilities are now offering microdermabrasion without any oversight. But Dr. Lee is a board-certified plastic surgeon, and he has carefully trained his staff to deliver the same thorough, careful approach. You can trust the Aspire specialists to provide a safe procedure and the best outcome possible.
